Delhi is a modern hub for polo, nurturing some of the best talents in the country. India has an impressive list of polo players like Abhimanyu Pathak, Simran Singh Shergill to name a few. Polo has been a part of the royal tradition of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Punjab and is still played there with equal zeal. Polo has come a long way since then but nevertheless holds an important position in the history and culture of the country, as in Manipur where the sport is embedded in its mythology. The primitive form of the game interested them so much that soon after returning the Calcutta Polo Club was established in 1862 and later the Indian Polo Association (IPA) in 1892.
